My name is Isla Constant. I am British. I illustrate in many different styles with various mediums, although, I am at present aiming to hone my skills into 2 or 3 distinct signature styles.

I am highly visually motivated. The environments around me have a direct impact on my mood. I work as a visual specialist in a store in a mall; dressing windows, setting up displays etc. generally working to company approved standards and plans, which suits me as I am very organised and have high standards (though I don't give myself over to fastidiousness - infact I'm often too laid-back).

While I love my visually satisfying job it doesn't fulfill my deep need for a creative outlet. That is where painting and drawing enter the equation to balance the scale. That is, as much as I can motivate myself to create! Sometimes it's a lot easier to immerse myself in a book or have the instant gratification of photographic art...especially when I don't have a home environment conducive to my art.

In the absense of physical space and funds for a studio (at least until the loft is converted *crosses fingers*) I have focused my longings on an architect's desk/drafting table. So far, no joy - I'm not finding one in the UK with my specifications but I keep dreaming and looking! One day...*gazes off into the stars*

I am introspective and self-analytical. I know my flaws and my biggest hurdle in art is composing background contexts to support my subjects. So I'm striving to improve on this and it should lead to the overall improvement of my compositions. For this I have been studying the art of Roberto Innocenti, an italian illustrator who earned my everlasting respect from the moment I spied the cover of "The Adventures of Pinocchio" written by Carlo Collodi.

It suits me to study Innocenti's work because I am a realistic artist. For me, it is painfully difficult to stop at a simplified line drawing..I have an inner urge to refine basic drawings and make them look most like what they represent. But I don't have the patience to waste precious moments of life like the skilled Chuck Close in obtaining photorealism. No mistake though - I am no where near the greatness of Innocenti - I aspire to such talent!

Thank You Browser/Watcher/Favouritor/Collector for taking an interest in my artwork. I appreciate your comments and support and I hope to soon have much more to contribute!
